5 Emergency Items You Should Always Keep In Your Car

When you’re driving, it’s impossible to be prepared for everything that could happen. Drivers get distracted and fail to stop; tires become punctured from nails on the road; engines overheat. While you cannot always plan for what is going to happen, you can always plan to be prepared. Having the right things in your car can often help to get you out of a bad situation.  Here are 5 items to always keep in your vehicle.

  1. First Aid Kit

A first aid kit is one of the most important things that you can keep in your car. A first aid kit contains many essential items that can help you if you become injured. Such items include band-aids, bandages, antibiotic cream, and more. You can purchase a premade kit with everything already in it, or you can make your own kit to ensure it has everything that you want.

  1. Cell Phone Charger

You may take your cell phone charger with you from place to place, but sometimes you can forget it. For this reason it is a good idea to have a specific cell phone charger that you leave in your car at all times. This way when something happens, you can be sure that your phone is fully charged in order to call for help.

  1. Spare Tire

Flat tires happen regularly. Debris and nails may fall off of utility trucks and it’s easy to drive over small items without noticing. It is very unsafe – and sometimes impossible – to drive with a flat tire. That’s why it is important to keep a spare tire in your car. But it is not enough to have a spare. You should also know how to change the tire, which requires the right tools.

  1. Tool Kit

A tool kit can come in very handy for helping to fix a variety of issues. As with a first aid kit, you can purchase a premade tool kit or make your own. But whether you purchase a tool kit or make your own it is important to include the following tools in it:

  • Screwdrivers
  • Antifreeze
  • Brake Fluid
  • Pliers
  • Duct tape
  • Tire Gauge
  1. Bottles of Water

A bottle of water can serve a multitude of purposes. Not only can a water bottle be used for the conventional purpose of drinking the water to stay hydrated, but you can use it to clean your clothing after changing a tire or cool an overheated radiator.
