Police in Oklahoma City confirmed that a bicyclist who was originally listed in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident in Northwest Oklahoma City has succumbed to his injuries.
The Incident
The Oklahoma City Police Department is currently searching for a driver who hit a bicyclist and then fled the scene. The hit-and-run accident took place near Northwest 16th Street and North Classen Boulevard. Reports say police responded to an accident scene at 2:40 a.m. to find the victim lying in the road.
The victim, a 31-year-old Oklahoma City man, was alive when he was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Sources at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center later confirmed the man died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.
About the Investigation
Another news source indicates that the vehicle driver hit the bicyclist and subsequently dragged the man’s bicycle nearly ten blocks as they left the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.
Investigators have not released a description of a suspect vehicle. They hope surveillance footage from the 24-hour surveillance system protecting a nearby office, as well as security footage from several other local businesses, may help identify the vehicle and its driver. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the Oklahoma City Police.
