Another Successful Graves McLain Backpack Program for 2019

Last month, the attorneys at Graves McLain were thrilled to be able to provide over 3000 students with free backpacks. 2019 is the fourth year of the program, and each year the program has been able to expand to assist more and more students.

The program began with one Tulsa-area school. This year students in six schools – Dolores Huerta Elementary, McClure Elementary, Unity Learning Academy, Monroe Demonstration Academy, Springdale Elementary, and John Hope Franklin Elementary – were the beneficiaries of the program.

Given the success of a similar program run by Maples, Nix & Diesselhorst in Oklahoma City, and largely supported by the Oklahoma Association for Justice, Graves McLain began their backpack program in 2016.

With nearly a third of Tulsa’s children living at or below the poverty line, and Oklahoma school spending dropping by over 25% over the past several years, there is a definite need for the backpack program. Back-to-school costs can quickly add up and can be a burden on families. Providing a backpack to these kids helps them to get the school year started off on the right foot. Graves McLain is proud to work together with local schools to make the Tulsa community a better place.

Attorneys Chad McLain and Rachel Gusman spoke at the schools, delivering positive messages and encouragement to the students. They are pleased to represent the firm and their desire to better the lives of these children.
