Deadline Approaches for Oklahoma Residents to File FEMA Claims

In late May and early June, a series of strong storms rocked the Tulsa area, bringing with them high winds and heavy rain, leading to flooding. The damage was wide-spread and left property owners wondering what their next steps would be.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, approved multiple counties for Individual Assistance. Individual Assistance can provide grants to homeowners and renters to help pay for temporary housing and home repairs.

If you need to file a claim with FEMA, time is running out. The deadline to apply for Disaster Assistance is July 31^st. FEMA specialists will be at Lowe’s stores in Tulsa, Delaware, and Wagoner counties through July 27^th to assist. Alternatively, you can contact FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov.

When registering, it is helpful to have the following information on hand:

• The address of where the damage took place
• Your current mailing address and phone number
• Homeowner’s insurance information
• Routing and account number for your bank account
• Your total annual household income
• A description of your damages and losses

In the aftermath of a disaster, you should file a claim with your insurance company as soon as possible. Many losses due to flooding are not covered by homeowners’ insurance policies. However, you should not wait for claim denial in order to file a claim with FEMA.
