Halloween Safety with Chad McLain on Good Day Tulsa

On Thursday, October 24th, Attorney Chad McLain of Graves McLain appeared on KTUL’s Good Day Tulsa program to talk about Halloween safety and offered some helpful tips. Watch the segment:

Kids love Halloween. As parents, there are many things to keep in mind when taking the kids out for trick-or-treating. You should make sure they can see well while in their costume; consider using face paint instead of a mask. Equip children with flashlights or glow sticks to ensure that they can be seen by others. Travel on sidewalks when possible and only visit well-lit houses.

As a property owner, there are things you can do to help prevent injury to those who may visit your home on Halloween. While spooky decorations are fun, fog machines can make it difficult to see walkways. Double-check that all electrical cords or other hazards are kept well away from paths. And you’ll want to keep pets indoors – unusual commotion can cause them to become unexpectedly aggressive.

Even if you’re not celebrating, if you’re driving on Halloween, you need to take extra caution.  Turn your headlights on earlier than you think you need to as it will make it easier to spot children. Proceed slowly and carefully through neighborhoods or other areas where kids will be trick-or-treating. And as always, minimize distractions and keep your full attention on the road.
