Thanksgiving is a holiday where we look back on the year and give thanks for all that we have. It is a holiday when families get together and share a meal and drink, and enjoy the quality time together.
Thanksgiving holiday is also one of the busiest travel periods of the year. An estimated 51 million Americans will be traveling to go see family and friends throughout the week leading up to Thanksgiving Day. Many will be traveling on planes, trains, and cars to get to their destination this year.
People throughout Oklahoma will be anxious to arrive at their destinations on time. It is important to remember that Thanksgiving is a busy travel period. Whether you choose to take an airplane or drive to your destination, be patient when traveling and expect delays to occur.
Keep these safety tips in mind over the holiday weekend:
- Give Yourself Time – make sure to leave early in order to give yourself extra time in case a delay does arise while traveling. This is also a great way to avoid holiday traffic and frustration while on the road.
- Drive Defensively – there will be thousands of drivers on the road this holiday season! It is important to drive defensively and always be alert. Make sure to give yourself enough room to brake, and stay off your cell phone!
- Don’t Drive Distracted – it is never okay to use your cell phone while driving. Keep your phone stowed away at all times when driving in order to make sure you do not become distracted and arrive at your destination safely.
- Never Drink & Drive – plan ahead this holiday season! If you plan on drinking designate a sober driver, utilize the multiple car services available or use public transportation to get around.
