The holidays are a time for family, friends, and enjoying traditions. Unfortunately, there’s an increase in accidents caused by drunk drivers around this time of year. Protect yourself and your loved ones from alcohol-related crashes this holiday season by following the safety tips below and serving up some of our favorite alcohol-free holiday drink recipes!
It’s illegal in Oklahoma to drive with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher. Alcohol-related crashes injure nearly 2,500 and kill approximately 220 Oklahomans each year. Luckily, there are laws in place to protect public safety, as 1.8% of Oklahomans report driving after drinking too much.
Being arrested for driving drunk in Oklahoma can cost more than $10,000 in fines and fees. Oklahoma law requires any driver convicted of a DUI to install an ignition interlock device in every car they own or is registered to them.
As a result of a conviction for first-time offenders, the interlock system will be required for 18 months. Having your license revoked is another penalty for impaired driving in Oklahoma. If an impaired driver fails or refuses a breath test, their license is confiscated immediately.
By working together and taking preventative measures, we can help keep Oklahoma safe and keep drunk drivers off the road.
