The gas well explosion that occurred early this week in Oklahoma has shined a light on Patterson-UTI Energy and the number of safety violations the company has received over the past decade.
At least 20 workers have died at well sites linked to Patterson-UTI from 2005-2007. This is the same drilling contractor responsible for the horrific explosion that occurred early this week.
A report released by the U.S. Senate committee described Patterson-UTI as, “one of the nation’s worst violators of workplace safety laws,” having received more than 140 safety violation in the past 10 years.
The explosion left five workers fatally injured and is said to be one of the deadliest oil and gas industry accidents since the BP Deepwater Horizon explosion that left 11 workers dead.
