Powerful Weather Systems Damage Much of Oklahoma

In the past two weeks, a series of powerful weather systems have caused significant damage to many parts of Oklahoma. Bringing with them heavy rain, strong winds, and tornados, these systems have threatened many locations around our home state—disrupting the lives of thousands of the citizens we have pledged to serve.

As residents and involved citizens of Oklahoma, the personal injury attorneys at Graves McLain understand the residents of our home state are strong, resilient, and resourceful. The people affected by these storms are our friends, our family, our neighbors, and our co-workers.

Resources for Flood Victims

For those in affected areas, there are a number of emergency resources available. The Red Cross has published a list of open shelters for evacuees on their website. For any displaced residents who do not have a place for their pets, the Expo Square Pavilion located at the Tulsa Fairgrounds is currently serving as a temporary animal shelter.

Prepare for What May Come

According to a recent news article, Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum has advised residents who live along the Arkansas River corridor to prepare for a “worst-case scenario.” Emergency officials, under the direction of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, are releasing water from the dam at Keystone Lake in order to keep the body within its holding capacity.

The Mayor noted that the Tulsa Levee System is continuing to operate effectively, but notes the system has never been tested like this in previous years. He urged residents to respect barricades and avoid the roads around the levees.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to those who have suffered losses in the wake of these powerful weather systems—and wish continued strength to those who are currently trying to rebuild.
