Stryker® Orthopaedics Rejuvenate Hip Implant Recall – Risk of Severe Side Effects and Additional Surgery

Stryker® Orthopaedics has recalled its Rejuvenate Modular and ABG II modular stem and neck hip implants. This recall was announced by the FDA on July 6, 2012. It has been found that fretting and corrosion of the hip implant are occurring with some of the devices. This can cause serious complications such as metallosis (metal ions building up within the body) and necrosis (tissue death). Patients with the Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG II implant may also suffer painful allergic reactions, swelling, hypersensitivity, bone damage, and severe pain. Repeated revision surgery, as well as the removal of the device, has already been necessary for several patients.

Which Implants are Affected by the Recall?
Stryker Orthopaedics manufactures numerous medical implant devices. The recalled devices include:

• Rejuvenate Modular Hip System
• ABG II Modular Stems and ABG II Necks

If you are unsure whether you were implanted with one of the Stryker® recalled hip implants, you should check with your doctor or the surgeon that performed your operation. This information should also be available on your medical records. If you cannot obtain this information, call a skilled personal injury attorney for a free consultation. They will be able to get to the facts to find out if you were the victim of a defective medical device.

Severe Heath Complications
Recipients of recalled Stryker hip implants should consult their doctors immediately if they experience any pain or swelling surrounding the area of their hip replacements. Not all complications from the device will be felt immediately and there is a possibility that patients can have complications without even being aware of it. If you have had one of these devices implanted, you should check with your doctor even if you are not currently feeling complications. This will help make sure you don’t suffer any serious injuries in the future. In many cases, additional surgeries are required to correct this defective medical device.
