Tire Recalls and You

Leading tire manufacturers including Firestone, Uniroyal, Michelin, and Cooper often have to recall products after their tires prove unsafe and hazardous to drivers. In July of 2013, Michelin alone was forced to recall 100,000 of its tires.

Tire failures due to inferior materials and/or defective manufacturing processes occur every year, causing destruction of property, traumatic injuries, and even death. Unfortunately, these accidents are often a result of tire manufacturers forcing over-production and pushing tires through to sellers without first allowing proper curing time. Tires that are inadequately cured can lead to belt separation within the tire. When this occurs and a tire de-threads or pops at a high rate of speed, it is extremely hard to maintain control of the vehicle. For larger vehicles with higher points of gravity, these situations can often cause the vehicle to roll over, creating a greater risk for serious injury and death for all in the car.

Tire manufacturers are among some of the biggest corporations in the world and will do everything in their power to maintain their profits. There have even been claims that tire manufacturers will pay private investigators to go to the scene of an accident and remove crucial evidence, such as tire remnants, before trial.

If you have been involved in a car accident as a result of tire de-threading or unexpected popping, make sure to document your case. If you are able, take pictures at the accident scene and of the tire. Take any pieces of tire that have fallen off with you and preserve them. They may be a valuable asset in court later.

If you have been injured or had a loved one die due to a defective tire, it is imperative you contact a personal injury lawyer right away. A skilled personal injury lawyer will be able to reconstruct the scene, hire experts to evaluate the accident, and stand up to the lawyers employed by the tire manufacturer.
