A Seattle woman walking her Great Dane claims she and her pet were attacked by three dogs owned by a homeless woman living in a parked RV. An article on the story appears here.
When Leslie Shelton attempted to walk her dog near the area of Sixth Avenue South and South Snoqualmie Street in Seattle, Washington, both she and her pet were attacked by three dogs emerging from a parked recreational vehicle owned by an unnamed homeless woman.
A Surprise Attack
Shelton says she and her dog, Lily, faced three aggressive dogs emerging from the RV parked on the street outside her home. She claims the dogs attacked when their owner opened the RV’s door. Both Shelton, who was pulled to the ground by the dogs, and Lily are now recovering from bite wounds. Shelton’s husband drew a gun on the dogs after hearing screams but did not fire. The three attacking dogs are now in the custody of Animal Control.
An Ongoing Safety Concern
Neighbors say the area is known as a favorite spot for RV parking and have alerted Seattle City Council. One Council member states they hope both the Human Services Department and Seattle Police can identify solutions to better address the public safety needs of the area.
Oklahoma Establishes Strict Liability
Oklahoma statute §4-42.1. clearly states: “The owner or owners of any dog shall be liable for damages to the full amount of any damages sustained when his dog, without provocation, bites or injures any person while such person is in or on a place where he has the lawful right to be.”
